I’ve got a confession to make – I’m an Olympic junkie. Twice every four years, I go into Olympic overdrive, watching sports and competitions that wouldn’t receive a second thought at any other time. I just seem to get caught up in the moment….
Kinda conjures memories of the old Wide World of Sports of my youth, a program to which I was slavishly devoted every Saturday afternoon.
Thank goodness this cycle’s Olympics are in the Western Hemisphere. As a result, the top events are run during prime time here in the good ‘ol US of A. During the London Games, I found myself watching coverage at the oddest hours, and sometimes almost around the clock.
That interfered with my beauty sleep.
Dang, I was worried Phelps was about to lose that one!
I may be a little obsessed, but at least I can still recognize an obsession when I see one. And that’s why I can still find humor in the latest JP Sears video appropriately titled, “What I love about the Olympics.” If you’re unfamiliar with Sears, he has a clever way of skewering things that people hold dear – organic food, yoga, parenting, vegetarianism, spiritual dating, and now the Olympics. If you can’t laugh at yourself, don’t go here – you have been warned!
Now that wasn’t so bad, was it? A shot at gymnastics, a few jabs at cycling, and a punch in the nose to basketball and soccer – but all those sports are tough. They can take it!
So enjoy this once-every-four-years opportunity, but don’t take it too seriously.
And try not to lose your temper if the U.S. loses in Men’s synchronized swimming, although Team Chubbies is a lock, if you ask me…
