Today’s blog post consists of a friendly reminder to all my Mad Gringos out there – this Sunday is Mother’s Day.
If you’re like most men (and I checked the expiration date on my man card only moments ago, so I think I know what I’m talking about here) you’re now heaving a heavy sigh.
Or possibly reading your checking account balance while hoping you can afford that six dollar Hallmark card and the 711 “present” you planned. Buck up, boys, I promise you that when it comes to Mother’s Day, it’s the thought that counts.
Hint: these tulips might be slightly past their prime.
But don’t kid yourself. Content counts, too. Trust me on this – take some time to pick out a nice, thoughtful gift for Mom. It’ll pay dividends in the long haul. Or possibly in a month when Father’s Day rolls around, and I’m talking about more than just Karma here (wink, wink!)
And let’s spend a minute thinking about exactly who is “Mom.” We can all agree that the woman who nurtured you in your youth deserves some recognition on this special day, but I can’t believe the number of guys I’ve heard disclaiming spouses and significant others, saying, “Hey, she’s not my Mom.”
The only logic response to such nonsense is: “You fool! Isn’t she the mother of your children? Or possibly the mother of someone’s children? Or at least maybe she once wanted to be a mother? Do you like sleeping on the couch?” Take my word for it, if there’s a woman of marriageable age in your life, she deserves a little TLC on Mother’s Day. Maybe not the entire “bouquet of flowers picked from her own garden” treatment. But something.
But not like that! More what I had in mind.
When you take care of her Mother’s Day needs, likely she will remember you come Father’s Day. And in Gringoland, we all know what that means…
Mad Gringo Gear!
Okay, it might be a little mercenary, but remember – it is better to both give and receive. And far more likely than either option by itself, anyway.
So whatever you do, Gringos, don’t forget Mother’s Day!
